There’s a casting shakeup at “The Pitt.”

Variety has learned exclusively that Ayesha Harris, who plays senior night shift resident Dr. Parker Ellis, has been promoted to series regular going into the show’s third season. In addition, Supriya Ganesh, who has played senior resident Dr. Samira Mohan since Season 1, will depart the show after Season 2.

According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, Ganesh’s exit is a story-driven decision. Given that Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center is a teaching hospital, it is normal for residents to come in and out. Dr. Mohan has also spent part of Season 2 trying to determine what the next phase of her career will be once her residency ends.

Harris appeared in four episodes out of 15 in Season 1 of “The Pitt” and returned for Season 2. In addition to her work in the hit HBO Max medical drama, she is known for her work in shows like “Daisy Jones and the Six” at Amazon Prime Video and “Glamorous” at Netflix. Her other credits include “This Is Us,” “The L Word: Generation Q,” “Abbott Elementary,” and “Good Girls.”

She is repped by Innovative Artists, MRK MGMT, and Goodman Genow.

Season 1 of “The Pitt” proved to be a smash hit with both audiences and critics. Among its many accolades, the series received 13 Emmy nominations, winning awards in categories like outstanding drama series, outstanding lead actor in a drama series (Noah Wyle), outstanding guest actor in a drama series (Shawn Hatosy), and outstanding supporting actress in a drama series (Katherine LaNasa).
