Miami is in position to close on its quarterback in the Class of 2027.
According to On3’s Hayes Fawcett, Arlington Heights (Ill.) Montini Catholic Top247 signal-caller Israel Abrams is announcing his commitment on Friday afternoon on ESPN’s Pat McAfee Show. It’s set for 1:05 p.m. ET.
The 6-foot-4, 187-pounder is considered the No. 2 quarterback in the country this cycle, according to 247Sports.
Abrams, who is also considering Purdue, Kentucky, Florida State, and Auburn, is fresh off a multiday visit with the Hurricanes. Miami is now trending for his commitment.
“They’ve done an amazing job throughout the process with the limited time that they’ve had,” Abrams told InsideTheU earlier this week. “It definitely shows with the way that they’re recruiting me how effective they are when they’re recruiting me. It’s not just a bunch of spam text messages. They take the time to actually text me, which is important because I don’t want a garbage relationship. I want something real, so I appreciate the realness.”
As a junior, Abrams was the MaxPreps Illinois Player of the Year after totaling 4,072 yards with 40 passing touchdowns and 6 interceptions while also adding 10 rushing touchdowns en route to a 14-0 record and a 4A state title.
Abrams feels like Shannon Dawson’s offense will be a strong fit to help him be successful at the next level as well.
“I see I fit perfectly. I think it’s an offense that I can grow in, an offense that can get my game better and get me better for the next level, and an offense that, if I get the opportunity to be a part of, can take off and get to the next level. I see myself in that offense. The type of playmakers they have over there, they’re signing already, they’re recruiting, 100 percent,” Abrams said.
Miami currently has seven commitments in the Class of 2027, and the group ranks No. 12 nationally.
247Sports Scouting Report
-Elastic signal-caller that can rip the ball around the yard.
-Enters senior year with a 24-0 record and a pair of state title rings after earning a starting gig midway through sophomore year.
-Finds easy exit velocity with a rapid release, but can also throw with touch and anticipation.
-Accurate on the move and will find launching points – both on and off-platform.
-Displays the ability to come off his first read and work through his progressions.
-Gets out of sacks with slick pocket mobility and an impressive internal clock.
-More than capable of moving the chains with his legs and has the twitch to trigger RPOs.
-Made major strides both mechanically and mentally over the past 12 months, but is still rounding into form as he grows into a wiry 6-foot-4 frame and learns demands of the position.
-Must keep progressing but should be viewed at this stage as one of the top quarterbacks in the 2027 cycle and a potential high-level distributor for a College Football Playoff hopeful.
