The show, which stars actors Noah Wyle as Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch and Gerran Howell as Dr. Dennis “Huckleberry” Whitaker, continues to follow a group of healthcare professionals working in a hospital emergency room in Pittsburgh.

“The Pitt” season 2 takes place over one shift, set 10 months after the Labor Day events depicted in season 1. The new season follows Wyle’s character, Dr. Robby, who is trying to survive a July 4th shift, which is a notoriously busy day for any hospital, per USA TODAY.

Most of the major characters from season 1 return for season 2 including, Dr. Jack Langdon (Patrick Ball), Dr. Melissa “Mel” King (Taylor Dearden), Dr. Santos (Isa Briones), Whitaker (Gerran Howell), Dr. Samira Mohan (Supriya Ganesh), Dr. Victoria Javadi (Shabana Azeez), Dr. Robby (Noah Wyle) and nurse Dana Evans (Katherine LaNasa).
There are also a few new faces featured in the ER this season.
Sepideh Moafi is Dr. Baran Al-Hashimi, a new attending physician. Dr. Al-Hashimi is set to take over as Dr. Robby heads off on a “soul-cleansing motorcycle sabbatical,” USA TODAY writes.
Other new cast members include: Joy, a third-year medical student (Irene Choi); James, a fourth-year medical student (Lucas Iverson), and Emma, a recent nursing school graduate (Laetitia Hollard).
Why did Dr. Collins leave the ‘The Pitt’?
Tracy Ifeachor, who plays Dr. Heather Collins, has confirmed she will not return for “The Pitt” season 2, as she and the showrunners felt her character’s arc is “complete,” per Forbes.
Where does ‘The Pitt’ take place?
“The Pitt” is set in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. However, most of the filming for the series takes place in Burbank, California. Some scenes in season 2 were also shot at Pittsburgh’s Allegheny General Hospital, according to Decider.

Us Weekly reports “The Pitt” was renewed for season 3 in January.
Although an exact release date has yet to be announced, HBO CEO Casey Bloys told Deadline in November 2025 he hopes to release season 3 in January 2027, as he believes an “annual return” is important to the success of the series.
Who plays Duke on ‘The Pitt’?
Actor Jeff Kober, known for his roles in “China Beach,” “Sons of Anarchy,” “The Walking Dead” and more, guest-starred as motorcycle engineer Duke Ekins during season 2 of “The Pitt.” Kober’s character is a friend of Dr. Robby, who encouraged him to come into the hospital and get his throat checked out.
